A magnitude-6.4 earthquake struck off the coast of central Japan on Nov 26, 2024.
Seems the aftershocks of not more than magnitude-5.0 continued on Nov 27 and 28. Some friends in Osaka and Kyoto say their hotels swayed for a while. Although the epicenter is far away, the tremors are felt in Kansai.
What to do in Earthquakes when you are traveling in Japan :
Before Earthquake
Download an earthquake early warning app, Safety Tips app provided by the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO).
Locate the staircase or emergency exit of your hotel.
Put essentials in your backpack, flashlight, batteries, phone charger, power bank, water bottle, cash, medicine (if any).
During Earthquake
Drop down low for stability and reduce risk of falling; Cover your head from falling items; and Hold onto something.
If you are inside, do not go outside as there may be falling debris.
If you are outside, stay clear from buildings, trees, and utility wires.
Never use elevators during or after an earthquake.
If you’re in public transportation, follow the locals and authorities.
When near the coast, immediately find higher ground and remain there until you have been notified that there is no tsunami risk.
After Earthquake
Wear shoes to protect your feet from broken glasses / mirrors.
Avoid turning on electrical switches.
Approach the hotel staffs and follow their instructions.
If you require aid, call the number 119.
Avoid using a car and evacuate on foot if possible.
Do not use elevators. Evacuate via the stairs if possible.
Free Public Wi-Fi '00000JAPAN' Available During Disasters
Based on the lessons learned from the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, Japan has promoted activities to make public wireless LANs available free of charge in the event of a disaster.
But, don't worry! These steps are usually for MAJOR quakes!
Most earthquakes in Japan are quite minor and can even happen without you noticing. Japan has plenty of experience with this, so most modern buildings there have been designed to be resistant to earthquakes and their early-warning systems are state-of-the-art.
The JNTO has an online tool that provides tourists with advice based on their circumstances depending on what kind of emergency you’re experiencing, including earthquakes. It also features some useful Japanese phrases to help with communication in an emergency.

Magnitude 7.6 Earthquake Strikes Japan 01/01/2024
Well that's a hell of a way to start the new year:
Highest-level tsunami warning dropped but residents in coastal areas told not to return to homes
Japan dropped its highest-level tsunami alert, issued following a series of major earthquakes on Monday, but told residents of coastal areas not to return to their homes as deadly waves could still come.
The quakes, the largest of which had a magnitude of 7.6, started a fire and collapsed buildings on the west coast of Japan’s main island, Honshu. It was unclear how many people might have been killed or hurt, the Associated Press reported.
The Japan Meteorological Agency reported more than a dozen quakes in the Japan Sea off the coast of Ishikawa and nearby prefectures shortly after 4pm.
At least six homes were damaged by the quakes, with people trapped inside, government spokesman Yoshimasa Hayashi said. A fire broke out in Wajima city, Ishikawa prefecture, and electricity was out for more than 30,000 households, he said.
The agency initially issued a major tsunami warning for Ishikawa and lower-level tsunami warnings or advisories for the rest of the western coast of the island of Honshu, as well as the northernmost of its main islands, Hokkaido.
The warning was downgraded to a regular tsunami several hours later, meaning the waters could still reach up to 3 metres (10ft). Aftershocks could also hit the same area over the next few days, it said.

If you are in any of those areas please listen to the warning, please don't try to stick this out, get out of the areas as fast as you can and head to high ground RIGHT NOW.
DO. NOT. WAIT.

Japan Sea Earthquake
On 1 January 2024, at 16:10 JST a 7.5-magnitude earthquake struck the Japan Sea coast on Monday, flattening towns on the remote Noto peninsula. More than 120 people have been confirmed dead, and 200 are missing. Japan's Self-Defense Forces are using helicopters for rescue operations and deliver supplies to isolated areas, as several roads remain blocked. More than 30,000 people are being housed in government shelters. As of 5th January, around 23,200 households were without electricity in Ishikawa and more than 66,400 lacked running water. Ishikawa's governor Hiroshi Hase said during a disaster management meeting that the prefecture was facing "extremely severe situations". He also warned that restoring running water would take a long time "as many water pipes have cracks". Some hospitals and facilities for taking care of elderly and disabled people have also lost power and water.

Tragedy after tragedy.
#Japan #earthquake on #NewYear's Day. On the 2nd day, Japan Airlines (Airbus A350) collided with Japan Coast Guard's De Havilland Canada DHC-8-315Q carrying earthquake aid at #Tokyo's #Haneda Airport.
All 379 passengers and crew members on board were safely evacuated. Sadly, 5 crew members of the Japan Coast Guard aircraft were killed with one seriously injured.
A horrible way to start 2024.

Dear Journal,
It's the first new moon(in Capricorn♑️)🌚 of the year(2024)🥳 and already, so many crazy things started happening simultaneously everywhere!🫣
Starting with Japan having an earthquake and all kinds of damage😳 (I could only watch in disbelief and pray that it doesn't sink before I go there😢💔🙏). Then there's all sorts of people being exposed for crimes against humanity💀🤝💸😳, videos of UFO sightings, crazy weather, and other scary stuff🛸👽👾🌀❣️😱.
Sometimes, I just want to crawl somewhere and hide forever coz it's too much to bear💔😭😭😭
But despite all this chaos/fear that's ensuing all around, you can't let it distract you from what's important (youself🫵).
Now is the time to prioritize your needs and get down to business. Set boundaries to protect your evolution (inner child healing or shadow work), so that you give yourself the opportunity to pursue your dreams that's been waiting to materialize✨️ and permission to live your truest and most authentic self🫅🤝👸so that you have the courage to let the hero in your journey shine🌟❤️🔥🙌
because this is the year (Year of the Dragon🐉) to accomplish revolutionary changes🙌 (Pluto is going back and forth between Capricorn & Aquarius in bringing radical transformation), it encourages you to try again, trust your intuition, and take a leap of faith because this New moon marks a fresh start for this new shift😁👌
So whatever it is that you're preparing for this year, it's going to set up the next 20-year cycle, so be prepared☝️😯
Here's to all the dreamers out there, May you receive more than you ever imagined🥂👑💖🙏 (your gift to the world is waiting to be received🤲💝).
Embrace your Dragon energy🐉😜 It's probably safer than flying right now✈️😏

Okay time to stop doom scrolling and go to bed. Gonna have to pause my NERV app. I can't keep hearing it go off for another earthquake every ten minutes. Fingers crossed for a really, really low death toll in the morning. My heart is hurting.

Workers reenter Fukushima’s damaged No. 1 reactor for first time
Things were so dangerous after a blast at Fukushima Daiichi reactor No. 1 that workers didn’t enter the building at all afterwards. Until today. Nearly two months after the hydrogen explosion that greatly damaged the plant on March 11th, NHK reports that workers re-entered the building housing the reactor for the first time since the initial blast. The workers plan to install an air purifier in the plant, reportedly "aimed at preventing workers from suffering internal radiation exposure when they work on setting up a new cooling system at the No. 1 reactor.“ That must be a really good air purifier. The Japanese weather agency said that a 50-centimetre tsunami struck an island south of Tokyo on Tuesday following a magnitude 5.9 earthquake, according to local media.
The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) had issued a tsunami advisory for the Izu and Ogasawara islands shortly after the tremor but lifted it by 11 a.m. (local time), stating that tsunami activity had sufficiently subsided, reports Kyodo news.
